Avenue of the Flags – Diamond Crest Cemetery

Since 1992, the Diamond Crest Cemetery in Johnstonville, California (near Susanville in Lassen County), has honored fallen heroes with a stunning tradition known as The Avenue of Flags. Over 300 American flags, generously donated by community members, are proudly displayed twice a year on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Volunteers come together to create this breathtaking tribute, offering a solemn yet inspiring reminder of the sacrifices made for our nation’s freedom.

I’ve made it to the event a few times over the years and thought that today, on Memorial Day, I’d share a few images.

This first shot is from Memorial Day in 2021 and shows the main flag at half staff over the center aisle in the cemetery.
