Mount Lassen and Lassen Volcanic National Park

Lassen Volcanic National Park sits in Northern California’s Cascade Range, less explored than the state’s more famous parks but delivering everything a landscape photographer needs – active geothermal features, alpine lakes, volcanic peaks, and accessible high-country terrain. This collection spans multiple visits across seasons, from early-morning light at Reflection Lake to the sulfur chaos of Bumpass Hell, frozen lakes under winter skies, and autumn color in the park’s quieter corners.

The gallery includes both the iconic (Lassen Peak alpenglow, Helen Lake reflections) and the overlooked (forest streams, roadside meadows, thermal areas most visitors walk past). Being local to the region means I’ve shot this park under conditions that require either luck or repeat visits – storm clearings, first snow, peak fall color, and the kind of predawn light that doesn’t happen on vacation schedules.
