And so it begins…

Welcome to what I hope will be an enjoyable project for both yours truly and anyone who finds pleasure in my photographic pursuits — set in the land of clear, crisp air, diverse open nature, clean living, along with the slow internet and unreliable power grid that come with it.

What’s in a name?

Anyone following me on social media will know I’ve chosen the handle and branding of tpeakphotos. I wish I could tell some super-fascinating story behind it. However, it simply came down to knowing how many Mike Lees there are in the world — including several photographers and a long-time senator that roughly half the country doesn’t like. While trying to come up with something unique, I looked out the window, saw Thompson Peak — the majestic mountain I’m lucky to live at the base of — and found my inspiration.

Why this site?

First and foremost, my hat’s off to folks who can make social media algorithms work for them! Alas, that’s a club I’ve never been able to join. I also recently had a close call where I nearly lost access to my Facebook page after several years, due to a technical glitch on their end (I assume). That was the push that finally got me to stop talking about creating a site and actually build one. At least here, as long as I can pay my modest hosting bill, I have ownership and control of the content.

What can you expect here?

Full disclosure: much of this is still in the brainstorming phase. That said, I primarily plan to share my work with anyone who finds it interesting. As anyone following me on the aforementioned social platforms already knows, most of what I do focuses on various aspects of nature — day and night (though the latter’s getting tougher as I age and find myself nodding off on the couch at dusk more often than I’d like). I love to observe and photograph the flora and fauna I’m surrounded by locally and travel when I can to experience even more.

Going forward

If you followed me here from social media, thanks for tagging along. If you stumbled in organically, welcome aboard! Feel free to drop a comment and share this and future posts with anyone you think might enjoy them. If I’ve set things up properly, there should be a subscribe option around here somewhere so you can get an email notification whenever I have a bright idea and post something. (I promise not to blow up your inbox with spam.)

Tranquil blue hour photograph of a small cluster of tules emerging from the still waters of Eagle Lake in Lassen County, Northern California. Captured on a frigid winter morning, the delicate reeds cast graceful reflections across the glassy surface, their lower stems adorned with tiny icicles glinting in the soft dawn light. A thin veil of fog drifts above the lake, blurring the line between water and sky while distant hills fade into soft lavender hues. This minimalist scene captures the quiet elegance of nature’s simplicity — a fleeting moment of peace, stillness, and icy beauty at Eagle Lake.
For now, I’ll sign off with a pretty picture 🙂
